The Story

My husband and I were servers in Nashville, TN for years. Our entire income depended on tips, and the generosity of others. At the end of a long crazy day, my very last table that I was almost too tired to take, ended up having a huge impact on my life. The table ended up tipping me $1000. From then on, I knew I was going to pay it forward one day. Eventually, I was able to do my freelance videography business and phased out of the service industry.

When the pandemic hit, it effected Nashville immediately. We are a town that heavily relies on tourists, and the entertainment industry. I watched many of my friends and clients struggle, as we all did in our own way. My birthday was in April so we were not able to go out and celebrate. Around the time Phase 2 began in Nashville, and things were opening back up. I started noticing the “Venmo Challenge” trend on Tik Tok. Different users were having fun with it and asking followers to Venmo them whatever they could for a new car, and plastic surgery….and it was actually working! I noticed no one was really paying it forward. My husband and I were going to finally be able to go out and celebrate my birthday, I was unsure of how the new restaurant guidelines were going to be, I knew there was a limited capacity which immediately had me thinking of servers….which means limited income!

So, I went on a whim and decided to challenge my followers to Venmo whatever we could to leave a massive tip! I had seen in the news big tips being left before and ever since I had received mine, I knew it was always something I wanted to do. It ended up taking off and we raised over three thousand dollars! Naturally, we felt it would only be right to split it up and help out more than one person! From there, I kept getting requests to keep going and here we are.

Since then , I have had multiple people reach out across the country to do the same thing….we now have serial tippers everywhere making their community a better place!
